Abstract

This article describes the Houston Transtar, a facility designed to control traffic congestion and manage emergency operations in the Houston metropolitan area. The article describes how Transtar uses geographic information system (GIS) technology that is based on real- time traffic conditions to change traffic patterns and provide information to motorists.
