Accepting the premise that a major purpose of planning is to inform the decision-making process, this conference keynote paper looks first at what types of decisions, and what types of decision-making processes, will likely occur over the next several years in transportation. This is followed, in the second half of the paper, by a focus on some key data challenges and opportunities that will present themselves to transportation planners and engineers over the next decade.
