Abstract

The issue of modal choice between car and public in urban areas is rather banal problem but still actual one and delicate to model. There are no arguments to contest existence of objective conditions for increasing the car ownership rate of population. The consequence is an increase in the number of people facing the modal choice decision private car or public Taking into consideration only the cost and travel time factors for modelling the process of modal choice can not explain an individual's behaviour in some cases: in particular the situations in which (and why?) the most of individuals prefer their cars when travel time using a car is equal (or superior) to travel time of public transport. This choice, especially for urban trips, includes an influence of more subjective component than the value of time, the psychological factor. An attempt to calculate an influence of this factor and also an influence of the value of time for modal choice decision private car or public transport is the principal objective of this for modal choice decision of this work. The model has been applied to the city of Kharkov, Ukraine. (A)
