HIGH-TECH TRAFFIC MANAGERS MOVE TO NEW HOME

This article describes efforts to create a Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) in Oakland, California. It focuses on the traffic surveillance and monitoring, traveler information, freeway incident management, and coordination activities to be provided by the center. The article also discusses the promise of a future 500-mile Traffic Operations System (TOS) on the San Francisco Bay Area freeway network which will include variable message signs, CCTV, highway advisory radio, and roadway detectors to provide real-time traffic information.
