Abstract

Gothenburg in Sweden has signed a contract for the delivery of 40 Sirio low-floor trams from Italy, with an option for a further 80 cars. The trams will be produced by AnsaldoBreda with the first one arriving in Gothenburg in Spring 2003. There are nine different tram routes in the city and trams are the preferred mode of transport. The history of the tram system in the city is outlined. At present the tram lines converge at Brunnsparken, but there is a project to build a wide circle tram route called Kringen. The tram system is controlled by the KomFram traffic management system. The present tram fleet consists of 205 vehicles.
