Abstract

Focuses on OECD's involvement in traffic control research. High priority research items are listed and the success of, and the need for, international scientific cooperation between Europe, North America and the Pacific Region are highlighted. Reviews the results of the OECD 1984 Road Transport Research Seminar on Micro-Electronics for Road and Traffic Management. The conclusions and perspectives resulting from the Seminar include: potential of micro-electronics in future systems and equipment developments; need for internationally agreed technical and functional frame standards; cost/benefit assessments; future research emphasis on in- car motorist information and communication systems.
