Some aspects of the planning of urban roads

This paper discusses the urban road planning process, and related matters. Planning should provide for the development of detailed proposals on a corridor or area basis within the broad framework of longer term strategies. The importance of lower cost proposals, and of applying adequate traffic management and other related techniques to reinforce the road hierarchy, to obtain the maximum utilisation of existing facilities, and to protect the environmental character of local areas, has been emphasized.
