Abstract
Traffic engineers serve as a link between the highway engineer and the automotive engineer. Traffic engineering applies to the operation of roads, vehicles, and the road user as a system called traffic. The article describes the profession of traffic engineering including work in the areas of traffic congestion, traffic regulatory devices, and roadway design. The academic qualifications, experience required, duties of the engineer, and benefits of traffic engineering services are presented
