Abstract
The authors provide details of the existing equipment and capacity of the marshalling yards in the Lyons area, as well as of the reasons for the construction of a new marshalling yard, and the choice of Sibelin. They then show the lay-out of this marshalling yard, which will comprise 1 set of 14 reception sidings, 1 set of 44 marshalling sidings, each having a length of 900 metres, 1 set of 12 departure sidings, 2 sets of 4 relay sidings, and 2 separate humps, having a daily capacity exceeding 4,000 wagons. They describe the earthwork operations, as well as the principal structures, the signalling equipment, the signal cabins, the electric traction and telecommunication installations, the yards for the adjustment of loads, and the inspection and repair of rolling stock, and a number of new devices to be used to facilitate marshalling operations.
