Abstract

The paper introduces the main facilities and capacity of the 15 railway network marshalling yards and 17 regional marshalling yards in China at present. It points out the problems existing in the layout of the yards, the coordination between the section capacity and that of the inner system, the innovation of the yard, the yard design concepts and equipment maintenance. It analyzes the cause that has brought about the deterioration of the unbalance of car flows and concludes that it presents a new challenge to marshalling yards. It studies the influence of the new transportation products upon the marshalling yard and has collected data from 8 marshalling yards which are most influenced by it. The paper introduces parameters Ф、Ψ to describe the unbalanced level of car flows with the method of statistics analysis and computer simulation. By analyzing the data, we can draw the conclusion that the unbalance was very serious.The paper further proposes the counter-measures of eliminating the unbalance in the layout of the yards and the yards aspects.It analyses the solutions of the yards to suit the development of the railway.
