Abstract

Rail wear is the result of rail/wheel interaction and depends on line profile, cant in curves, running conditions, gross tonnage, axle-weights, rolling stock dynamics, track resilience etc, etc. The article shows that wear on the side edges of rails can be reduced by improving the horizontal resilience of the track as well as by greasing and using highly wear-resistent rails. The authors describe the advantages to be obtained from using spring clips and rubber underlay plates.
