Abstract

In this research, the authors propose a framework for a transportation planning methodology that responds to the challenges and opportunities posed by advances in new technologies. Specifically, a methodology is proposed that exploits emerging information technologies to develop decision support for the teamwork found in transportation planning problems. The concept of a Building Block Function (BBF) is introduced as the functional form of the decision support that the computer system PLANiTS should provide. The design methodology is illustrated by using as an example a recent planning problem from California.
