Abstract

The Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) provides bus service in the City of Memphis and the adjacent suburban communities. During the past few years, some officials and community leaders have suggested the need for a drastic change in transit services in the downtown area. Because of the nature and magnitude of the proposed changes to public transportation, they could have substantial impact on MATA operations, finances and patronage. This paper highlights the study approach, key findings and recommendations.
