Abstract

Miami-Dade County (Florida) is an urbanized area comprising over 2 million residents and is the 4th most congested metropolitan area in the U.S. Thus, there is no doubt that an efficient transit system is critical to the area's continued growth and economic prosperity. However, inadequate funding for public transit and the lack of a dedicated source of funding at the local level are beginning to have a negative impact on the current transit system. This paper briefly describes the existing transit system and planned expansions and improvements by the Miami-Dade Transit Agency (MDTA).
