Abstract
The incremental launching method of prestressed concrete bridge superstructure construction is discussed from the designer's viewpoint. As the construction method essentially prescribes the design, the paper concentrates on discussing the relevant issues and criteria which intrinsically affect the design. Emphasis is given to the interaction of the construction requirements and the specific design and detailing problems related thereto. The limitations of the method are discussed, together with examples to illustrate its versatility, and potential cost effectiveness in the context of the Australian bridge construction industry (a).
