Abstract

This paper is presented as paper no 6, session three: non destructive testing and small bridge engineering. Small bridges make up a large proportion of this country's bridge building effort. Designs for such bridges need to be prepared readily and easily. Standardised designs should take into account construction procedures, which should be as simple as possible, and maintenance factors. Types of small bridges currently being built are described. A design philosophy for the preparation of designs for small bridges is presented. Some construction details and maintenance problems are described (a).
