Abstract

A number of improvements have been made in the hot-mix asphalt industry in the last two decades. These improvements include new mix design procedures, which were developed in the early 1990s along with the Superpave system, and equipment advances such as the milling machine. Other improvements include innovative ways to deal with bad weather conditions, such as using pavement heaters during rain and when temperatures are low. Methods currently under development , such as Perpetual Pavements, promise to make structures last longer.
