Abstract
The paper discusses ac-ac systems, ac-converter-dc systems, and dc-dc systems. Numerous examples of systems in actual use are given. The electromagnetic gear system, a new system combining electric propulsion and gears (with an output of about 10000 kw), is described. Advantages and disadvantages of electric propulsion systems, and items to be considered during planning are dealt with.
