Abstract

This article describes the TransLink fare card that will be launched in the San Francisco Bay Area in December 2001 by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission. The car stores cash value in an embedded microchip which is read by a reader device attached to a transit fare collection machine. TransLink equipment is installed at AC Transit Muni, Golden Gate Transit, BART, Caltrain and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority stations
