Abstract
This chapter describes the epidemiological situation of poisoning of cattle by Senecio spp. in Uruguay, including its clinical patters, necropsy findings, histopathology, diagnosis and treatment. The distribution and habitat of Senecio spp., the animal species sensitive to Senecio poisoning, the two factors that are typically present in outbreaks of Senecio poisoning, and the toxic compounds (pyrrolizidine alkaloids) present in Senecio plants are given. Some methods (physical, chemical and biological) to control Senecio plants are discussed.
