Abstract

For 20 years, epoxy-coated reinforcing steel has been used as the primary corrosion protection system in bridge decks, particularly in states that use deicing chemicals. This article provides an overview of selected bridge decks in 13 states and serves as a confirmation of the excellent performance of epoxy-coated rebar in deck protection systems. The condition of each of the 13 bridge decks is reported and rated on a scale from zero to nine, nine indicating new condition. Also, each deck is the first known epoxy-coated rebar installation in its state and each has a complete maintenance history as well.
