Abstract

This article describes applications of advanced technologies to transit operations. Technologies discussed include automatic vehicle location (AVL), computerized dispatching, smart cards, automated vehicle component monitoring. Focus is on the Global Positioning System (GPS)-based Advanced Operating System (AOS), introduced on buses in the Ann Arbor area.
