Abstract
The Nashville Area Regional Incident Management Plan study was initiated by the Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) to address issues related to traffic management around incident scenes. The primary purpose of the study is to develop a series of strategies that can be used to reduce delay, and consequently congestion, experienced by motorists not involved in the incident. The MPO is also sponsoring an Early Deployment Planning Study emphasizing traveler and tourist information. The implemented program will use traffic and transit management and infrastructure improvements already underway. Traveler information services will be tied in with a Traffic Management Center offering a coordinated program of accident detection and management, traffic network monitoring, traffic control, and construction management.
