Abstract
In the United Kingdom, cathodic protection (CP) is being investigated mainly as a repair option for substructures deteriorating as a result of chloride contamination. Research has shown that it can reduce the rate of corrosion but more information is needed on the extent of the reduction and monitoring criteria. To compare CP with other repair options more information is also required on the long term durability and maintenance costs of anode systems. At the moment any CP installation requires the services of a specialist CP engineer. (TRRL)
