Abstract

Article describing Salt Lake City's deteriorated concrete and steel bridge, the Fourth South Viaduct, and how cathodic protection measures were instituted for its rehabilitation. Cathodic protection was chosen for two main reasons: (1) Long term cost savings; and (2) Minimal inconvenience for the public. The article provides a narrative of the two-phase rehabilitation program and details of the application of cathodic protection.
