Abstract
The development of a comprehensive parking management plan for the MG road in Thiruvanthapuram City, India, is described. This involved the following stages: assessment of parking demand and supply characteristics in the road; evaluation of the adequacy of parking facilities; identification of appropriate locations for on-street and off-street parking; preparation of preliminary design of parking areas; evaluation of financial viability of the proposed parking schemes; the implementation of the proposed parking schemes, and the development of a long-term parking management policy. Details are given of the development of the parking management plan. The parking management strategy involved using existing parking facilities more effectively, reducing parking demand and increasing parking supply.
