CATHODIC PROTECTION OF BRIDGE DECKS AND PIERS IN ONTARIO

Abstract

The Canadian Ministry of Transportation has installed cathodic protection systems on 62 structures over the past 18 years with the first installation dating back to 1974. During 1990 and 1991, all the systems, including new installations, were inspected and evaluated. This report summarises the Ministry's experience with cathodic protection and describes the problems with the design, installation, monitoring and maintenance of the cathodic protection installations.
