Abstract
The finite element method is discussed and the application of this method to the structural analysis of two large tankers of 200,000 dwt and 250,000 dwt, respectively, is briefly described. Some results from these calculations are compared with ship measurements. A design procedure is suggested that utilises a specially written finite element package for tankers. Examples are given of the structural analysis of various types of ship structure. Order from NSFI as No. 18491.
