Abstract
Half of the trips made by motor vehicl;e in the Ile-de-France region around Paris iriginate in, end in, or involve transit through one of the region's 30 main interchange points. To cite a few examples, every day the Chatelet-les-Halles point caters for 670,000 interchanges, the Gare du Nord for 500,000, and the Gare de Lyon for 380,000. Interchange points are extremely vital due to thei size, the concentration of the flow of passengers passing through them, the large numbers of people involved in their operation, and their strong interaction with their urban environment. They constitute a decisive factor in people's transit-related choices. The paper discusses identified shortcomings that can have significant repercussions with the users, as well as policies that would make the interchange points conducive to user satisfaction.
