Abstract

Specialized transportation is provided to many individuals whose mobility is limited. Specialized transportation is a kind of demand-responsive public transit service, for people whose limitations make it difficult for them to use fixed-route services. These limitations can be caused by disability, income constraints, or age. This paper describes specialized transportation, how it is delivered and financed; emphasizes special practices in specialized transportation; and provides ideas for specialized transportation improvements.
