Abstract

Rainbow trout cage culture in marine or fresh water resources has spesific characteristics and great importance in Turkey. Cage culture of rainbow trout which began in1990’s accelerated in 2000’s. Production of rainbow trout in cage systems account for 61 % of total trout production with respect to 2009 production figures. A few research carried out concerning socio economic evaluations of this culture system. In this study, some structural determinations and evaluations of 159 trout cage farms in 33 provinces were performed. According to findings of the surveys Majority (82,2%) of the farms were established in dam lake whereas 7,6 % in marine and 6,4% in rivers. Production capacities of the farms varries between 10-2340 tonnes/ year and 63% of cage farms are small scale which have under 100 tonnes/year capacity
