Abstract

The paper describes the design and construction examples of three extended and reinforced bridges. One is the Eastern River Bridge which was widened at Huizhou City, that is, a new bridge has been built at the side of the old one, the span combination, bridge style, lane division and design elevation of the two bridges is same so that they are very harmonious after the old bridge was transformed, which has made them become a scenic spot of the city. The other is the Foshan Bridge that was consolidated because the bridge floor settled at the tenth span after it had been opened to traffic for eleven years. The bridge needed to be reinforced after the overall detection, the check ways and gist of design and construction for the bridge are introduced in the paper. Another is the extended Huzhou Bridge which is an extra great bridge on the first domestic extended expressway, the paper mentions some technical problems, such as the overall design, the superstructure of the main bridge and the transverse joints between the existing bridge and the extended bridge and so on. The former three examples can be used as the design and construction reference for the same kind of extended and reinforced highway bridges.
