Abstract
TRANSPORTATION PLANNING IN THE METROPOLITAN MILWAUKEE AREA IS REVIEWED. THE TRANSIT PLANNING STUDY IS A MULTI-DISCIPLINE AND MULTI-AGENCY TEAM EFFORT OF THE FOLLLOWING: (1) THE REGIONAL PLAN COMMISSION, (2) A TRANSPORTATION AND URBAN DESIGN CONSULTANT, (3) THE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION, AND (4) THE LOCAL PRIVATE TRANSPORT COMPANY. RECOMMENDATIONS OF EACH TEAM ARE REVIEWED BY THE COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND TECHNICAL COMMITTEE. THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE THE CLOSEST POSSIBLE APPROACH TO DOOR-TO-DOOR SERVICE FOR A MAXIMUM PROPORTION OF TRANSIT RIDERS AT SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED TRAVEL TIMES. IT IS FELT THAT TRANSIT TRAVEL TIMES CAN BE COMPETITIVE WITH THE AUTO AND, IN SOME CASES, BE SHORTER BY SEVERAL MINUTES.
