Abstract

This paper focuses on pertinent transportation issues/concerns relating to the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. The implementation of a new General Management Plan and the phasing in of an alternative fuel fleet for the Park's visitor transport system are discussed. Some recent efforts to develop intelligent transportation systems (ITS), in conjunction with the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), are also described. The proposed ITS, and an existing ADOT Highway Closure and Restriction System, will provide visitors with more current information on road conditions and forest fires within the Park.
