Abstract
This article describes the rebuilding of Minneapolis/ I-35W St. Anthony Falls Bridge, which collapsed on August 1, 2007 killing 13 people and injuring more than 100. It reports that construction progress has been steady since it began in October 2007, and has been relatively fast given the city’s winter conditions. The article provides details of the bridge and construction process, the elevated importance of safety on this particular construction project, the importance of public involvement, and the use of an interactive website to provide up-to-the minute information on the construction site, including web cams providing coverage of the building site. So far, the greatest challenge has been the necessity of placing large amounts of concrete during below freezing weather throughout the winter.
