Abstract
Pedestrians are an important group of road users in urban areas and should be taken into account in design and performance analysis of signalized intersections. The majority of current methods for evaluating signalized intersection performance includes the pedestrian impact but only few methods provide possibility of pedestrian delay estimation in a rough way neglecting their true behavior. The paper presents the results of the pedestrian behavior studies which enables to point out the factors influencing pedestrian delays at signalized intersections. The predictive formula for the proportion of pedestrian movements in a vehicle phase is presented. In the further part of the paper the model of pedestrian effect on capacity of turning vehicle movements is described as well as its calibration based on field measurements. The values given in this model are compared with these from the HCM method.
