This article offers an overview of passenger transit rail projects that have managed to survive, despite reduced funding. It relates how some agencies have successfully adopted strategies which have allowed them to reduce costs and services, yet retain passengers. The article first charts transit trends, looking at vehicle miles operated and passenger miles by mode. This is followed by a detailed section which gives a statewide breakdown of capital projects by agency. For each project, a brief overview is given, along with the following information: route miles, rolling stock, annual operating costs, annual capital cost, annual ridership, and average trip length.
