Abstract

For three-phase drive systems with impressed current, a phase sequence inverter is used for the generation of the three-phase system. This inverter is simpler than a pulse inverter and can use common thyristors. Depending on the requirements with regard to the power factor and disturbing current, a pulsable or a quenchable converter can be used as a line rectifier. The components of a high performance locomotive with impressed current system have been investigated. The construction of a test vehicle with two traction motors of 1.1 Mw each is envisaged for the near future.
