LOS ANGELES HAS PROPOSED TO THE URBAN MASS TRANSPORTATION ADMINISTRATION THE FUNDING OF AN EXCLUSIVE GRADE-SEPARATED BUSWAY THAT IS EXPECTED TO PROVIDE 6000 SEATS AN HOUR DURING PEAK TRAFFIC. A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS IN BUS AND OTHER RAPID TRANSIT MODES NEED RESOLUTION BEFORE RUSH HOURS BECOME LESS CONGESTED AND TIME-CONSUMING. AMONG THESE ARE MODE INTERFACE AND COMPETITION ANALSYIS, IMPROVED AND PEOPLE-ORIENTED MOVEMENT THROUGH THE CBD, BUS DESIGN, BETTER UTILIZATION OF EXISTING RIGHTS-OF-WAY, MARKETING ANALYSES AIMED AT DETERMINING THE KINDS OF TRANSIT SERVICES THAT WOULD ATTRACT NEW RIDERS, VEHICLE LOCATION SYSTEMS FOR HEADWAY CONTROL, BETTER AND MORE RAPID PASSENGER INFORMATION SERVICES, AND COMPILATION OF MORE USEFUL STATISTICAL DATA.
