Abstract

Begins with a discussion of the advantages to remote or automated toll collection. The European Community's remote toll project and work being done via the DRIVE project are presented, and a list of current projects in operation in France is given. This is followed by a discussion of the problems encountered in the implementation of remote toll collection. The article concludes with a brief discussion of what lies ahead for the technology.
