Abstract
A new traffic control center has been built in Zurich-Letten for the national highway network, including the ring motorway, in the canton of Zurich. In this modern control center, traffic conditions are monitored by television, traffic signals are controlled, distress calls from roadside telephones are processed, fire alarms are dealt with, radiocommunication with police patrols is handled and traffic announcements for the radio are prepared. For the traffic monitoring system of this control center, which covers a network of important highways with numerous tunnels, BBC supplied a decentralized process computer system. Its operation and functions are described in this article.
