Abstract

The Yamaguchi Prefectural Police headquarters traffic control center maintains traffic signals, vehicle sensors, traffic information signs, and roadside communications constituting a comprehensive traffic control system to control traffic along major highways in Yamaguchi prefecture. This system includes a system of television cameras for control that visually ascertain the flow and state of traffic. The terminal camera devices that are a constituent element of this system are installed at major locations along the National Highway 2 which is an important route that passes through the prefecture, as well as at important intersections in the major cities of the prefecture, including Iwakuni, Tokuyama, Hofu, Yamaguchi, Ube and Shimonoseki. Image signals from the camera devices are simultaneously transmitted to the local police station and to the traffic control center at Prefectural Police headquarters.
