Abstract

As stated earlier, the Central Marine Fisheries \nResearch Institute furnishes the production figures of \nvarious species of marine fishes based on multistage \nstratified random sampling techniques. For detailed \nbiological investigations involving aspects of species \ncomposition, size, age, growth, spawning, maturity, \nfood and feeding habits and other parameters, the \nProject has selected some important centres for tuna \ninvestigations which would help in monitoring the \nresources. The fishery and biological aspects collected \nfrom 6 centres viz., Mangalore, Calicut, Cochin, \nVizh'njam and Tuticorin in the mainland of India, and \nfrom Minicoy in the U.T. of Lakshadweep are analysed \nand results presented in the ensuing section under \ndifferent modules.
