Penaeid prawns belonging to the genera Parapenaeopsis, \nPenaeus and Metapenaeus of the \nfamily Penaeidae exploited by mechanised trawlers \nsupport a fishery of considerable magnitude \nalong the Mangalore coast. Among the penaeid \nprawns exploited Metapenaeus dobsoni, M. Monoceros, \nM. qffinis, Parapenaeopsis stylifera, \nPenaeus indicus and P. monodon are important \nand contribute upto 90-99 % of the prawn catch \nalong this coast
