Abstract
A lateral drainhole has been successfully drilled from an existing vertical well, through a narrow horizontal coal seam to the vicinity of an adjacent well. The project followed unsuccessful thermal attempts to link the two wells for the purpose of in situ coal gasification. A detailed discussion of how the well was drilled, problems encountered and results achieved, is presented.
