Abstract
Horizontal drilling technology has advanced dramatically over the past few years, and so has the number of horizontal gas and oil wells drilled, although the demand for advanced completion systems for these wells has been somewhat limited. Now however, flow control in horizontal completions is a rapidly emerging area of technology. Flow control technology is particularly important in the overall completion design to allow for production control, testing and downhole repairs. This article discusses the application of flow control techniques, equipment and hook-ups currently in use, and presents examples of horizontal wells where the technology has been applied.
