Abstract

planning the project is a hugely important part of the project management life cycle because during this stage project management should evaluate all the requirements, decided what requirements will be implemented within the project, get estimates from the project management team (tech lead, QA lead etc), create WBS (work break down structure), sequence activities and calculate/get critical path in the network diagram. There are many tools (some of them free of charge) but mostly they are complex and the project managers need time to get familiar with them. In this article, we would like to present easy to use but still useful approach to calculating the schedule for the project. The purpose of the article - investigate and find a more straightforward approach for the calculation of the project's critical path using MS Excel. Achieved result - realized simplified approach, which allows quick and easy calculation of the project's critical path with three-point estimates from the team and considering the national holidays and team vacations.
