Abstract

The Communication Services in Next Generation Wireless Networks are highly dependent on integrated wireless networks which characterize the presence of various Radio Access Technologies (RATs). Next generation networks encompass Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) and Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN). In the present scenario, smart phones have to interface with various RATs and have to switch seamlessly among the available networks. Hence the network selection algorithm gains importance in maintaining the Quality of Service (QoS) while transitioning from one network to another. The research article presents the Vertical Handover Decision Algorithm by considering a practical scenario. The input parameters taken into consideration are Received Signal Strength (RSS), bandwidth, cost and user velocity. Two networks scenario i.e.4G & WLAN have been considered in the research paper.
