A Few Words in Defense of Scientometrics

Abstract

The extended use of scientometrics indicators case in a comprehensive results of scientific research assessment is considered. Based on the definition of scientometrics, showing the limits of its use, it is shown that such a solution goes beyond the range of its capabilities and the result of scientific works assessment obtained in this way is distorted. From the point of view of scientometrics analysis of the used indicator construction is carried out and its shortcomings in are pointed out. Possible means for the successful use of scientometrics in modern conditions are indicated.
