Abstract

The refractive index , a useful physical characteristic of liquids, is used for their identification. Thus, comparison of the experimentally measured refractive index with the literature value for a pure substance is used to determine the purity of the liquid. The liquid sample under examination is considered to be pure if the measured refractive index is closer to the literature value.
